My dining set is one of my favorite pieces in the whole house, and it looked crammed over in the corner and a bit of an after thought in the space. While I like the idea of having more of a "great room" and less of a formal dining room, that concept doesn't work in this space. The sitting areas were not conducive to having conversations with guests and the chair that I had placed in the corner was always too big for the space. Here are some before photos so that you can see what I mean.
Huge chair, small corner, what is this rooms function?
I centered the dining set underneath the chandelier. I'm also planning on placing more artwork on that HUGE WALL at least until it all comes crashing down. The plan is to take out the wall between the dining room and place a counter with stools. Can you envision it?
Here's looking in from the living room. And why yes, that round mirror on the right is new, thanks for noticing.
I'm still a little on the fence about the rug, although I will say that in the photos it's a lot more contrasty than it is in person.
Here's the room at a few more angles.
And here a few more snapshots, because I couldn't resist. Please bear in mind that I styled this very quickly and did not give much thought to it. Don't hold it against me, k!?
So what do you all think? Are you fans of the rearrangement? Do you think the rug is too contrast-y? So far I'm loving the space, but I'm going to live with it for a few days before forming a super strong opinion on it. Also I'm selling the accent chair that was in the corner of the room on craigs list, no need to keep something that doesn't fit in the space. Have a great rest of your weekend!
